Teaching Experience

Abi has worked at Arlen Education as a tutor since January 2019. She has taught Maths Year 6-Year 11, and AS Maths. She is fun, friendly and helps the students to engage in their subjects.

Educated at Aylesbury Grammar School with A*AAA, followed by Bristol University, Abi has the academic knowledge and engaging teaching experience to help your child excel.

Lesson Structure

The first lesson will be spent finding the best ways to help your child learn, and identifying the key areas to improve. Working at their own pace, Abi will increase your child’s confidence and your ability to achieve those higher marks. Getting the foundations in place is so important in Maths, which is where private tuition can be a real benefit. Each person has their own preferred way of learning, and Abi will help find the methods which work for your child, and work individually to help them learn in the way that is best for them.

Abi also puts together an individual course structure for each student, which focuses on building up the less confident topics before developing and perfecting their skills.

KS2 / 11+

Maths is one of the core academic subjects, and it’s important boost your child’s confidence for entrance exams and SATs. A sure foundation in KS2 Maths will set your child in good stead for the more challenging work at Secondary School, and will ensure that they remain ahead of the curve throughout their secondary school career.

Abi uses fun games, challenges and puzzles designed to cover a range of maths topics whilst keeping your child engaged and interested. Using platforms such as Kahoot, Quizlet and Hegarty Maths, Abi uses many different methods to approach topics from different angles. Abi focusses on the essential concepts in Maths to prepare her students for Secondary School, whilst introducing new topics to stretch and challenge more able students.

KS3

KS3 is an important stage, making sure that students have a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of Maths: numeracy, algebra, ratio, data handling and shapes. An excellent grasp of KS3 Maths topics ensures the best start to GCSE Maths in year 10. Extra tuition at this level has shown to give students a head-start for their GCSE courses, and bump up their sets in preparation for GCSE.

GCSE

A GCSE is Maths is essential, so why not give your child the best start they can by having a good GCSE Maths grade they can be proud of? In year 10, Abi focusses on consolidating the knowledge and methods required for Maths GCSE, and fills in any gaps in their knowledge. She works individually with each student to improve their confidence and belief in their own ability, in preparation for GCSEs. Once a student reaches year 11, Abi then puts their knowledge to practice by instructing her students in exam technique. Each student works differently, and Abi will help to put together a personalised exam strategy, designed to optimise the student’s performance in their exam.

Pre-A-Level / AS

The jump to A-level Maths is one of the hardest transitions that any year 11 student will make. Abi has worked with year 11 students over the summer break to give them an excellent head-start for their AS course. By teaching some of the AS content, Abi can give the time and personal support for each student grasping the new concepts in AS Maths. Topics such as Calculus, Polynomials and Quadratics can be daunting in Year 12, but with some Pre-A-Level classes, your child will excel in their AS course.

So why not boost your child’s maths ability with private one-to-one tuition?
