I have been teaching English at all levels for 5 years. This includes all the way through SATS, from KS2 – 11+, GCSE and Adult Learning. It also includes proofreading for university students.
My approach is to recognise that each learner is an individual and to respect this, as I firmly believe that children and young people process information in their own individual ways. The rewarding part for me is that I get to observe this in you. I remember the old school reports would say that certain students were `slow’ or `disruptive’ in class. They are not. They take time to problem solve to reach an original and potentially better solution than everyone else. Such uniqueness should be valued and rewarded, not punished just because there is a systemic assumption that all children are naturally competitive and must abide by thinking the same as everyone else.
I like to engage my learners imagination and interests and make the lessons fun.
