Science (Years 5-11) – Abi Science GCSE, KS2, KS3

Cannock

These science classes cover all three sciences required for the national curriculum: chemistry, physics and biology. Topics will alternate between the three sciences, and are designed to follow alongside the child’s school work. As one of the core subjects, it’s really important that your child doesn’t fall behind with their sciences. So why not boost your child’s science grade with private one-to-one tuition?

The First lesson
The first lesson will be spent finding the best ways to help them learn, and identifying the key areas to improve. Working at your own pace, Abi will increase your child’s confidence and your ability to achieve those higher grades. There are so many concepts and methods to learn in science, which is where private tuition can be a real benefit. Each person has their own preferred way of learning, and Abi will help find the methods which work for your child, and work individually to help them learn in the way that is best for them.

Abi also puts together an individual course structure for each student, which focuses on building up the less confident topics before developing and perfecting your skills.

Lesson Structure

Abi’s tuition will support your child with their school curriculum, and will spend the time going through any topics to make sure that they are fully understood before moving on. The benefit of tuition is that Abi can spend the time working individually at their pace, whereas in a classroom setting, students can easily get left behind if they don’t understand the topic the first time.

The lesson structure is based around using an interactive online whiteboard, which both the student and Abi can draw on. The student can work through practice questions and interactive worksheets on the whiteboard under careful guidance, and in this way Abi can also help with spelling, constructing answers to questions and how to draw scientific diagrams.

As well as using the online whiteboard, Abi also uses the online platform Educake, which provides short, fun quizzes to consolidate the knowledge learnt in the lesson.

Syllabus

Abi has experience teaching multiple exam boards, including AQA, OCR, and Edexcel, as well as IGCSE.

Abi has transformed my son’s approach to learning sciences. He’s gone up flightpaths and is getting amazing grades just months after working together. My son finds the lessons fun and engaging and really looks forward to them. He started the lessons in lockdown and is still enjoying them each week after school on Zoom. It’s lovely to see my son’s whole attitude change and a sense of belief in his own abilities develop. Abi’s really made science work for him and the results speak for themselves.

Abi is an experienced tutor who specialises in science and maths. She is enthusiastic and is always looking for new ways to make her lessons fun. Her previous experience as a fun science presenter in primary schools has provided her with the training to provide fun and engaging science sessions which keeps the children both entertained and interested.

Abi studied at the University of Bristol, before working for the Aerospace Company Airbus. During her time in the Chief Engineer’s department, she volunteered as a Education Outreach Representative for Airbus. Abi helped to organise and coordinate many science and technology events at Airbus and at schools, including the UK Robot Challenge Finals and The Big Bang Science Fair. Her love of working with students to encourage and promote science led her to a career in science teaching, and finally academic tuition. She has worked for Arlen Education for several years offering Maths and Science tuition to students up to GCSE level and Headstart to A-level.
