Maths (KS2) – Neil Maths KS2

COLCHESTER

I was a primary school teacher for 16 years. During this time I taught children aged 7-11 years but in the past ten years I taught solely in Year 6, where the focus was on preparing them for the end of Key Stage 2 tests in Maths, English and Science. The children in my classes always made ‘outstanding’ progress as measured by the school’s assessment procedures and the Key Stage 2 test results always exceeded national pass rates.

I have extensive experience in teaching children of different ages and abilities. My job is to set high expectations and guide each child to their maximum potential. I have seen that most children learn best and are more able to achieve this potential when they feel confident and engaged, which is why I adopt an enthusiastic, friendly approach and provide fast paced and interesting lessons. My aim to encourage a positive attitude to learning and self-challenge, resulting in rewarding learning experiences and ultimately to success.

I was a primary school teacher for 16 years at Broomgrove Junior School in Wivenhoe. During this time I taught children aged 7-11 years but in the past ten years I taught solely in Year 6, where the focus was on preparing them for the end of Key Stage 2 tests in Maths, English and Science. The children in my classes have always made 'outstanding' progress as measured by the school's assessment procedures and the Key Stage 2 test results have always exceeded national pass rates.

I also had a number of additional roles whilst at the school, including being subject leader at various times for Maths, English and Computing and as such have been responsible for leading changes in teaching methods, assessment procedures and target setting within these subjects. I was the deputy safeguarding officer for the school.

Since deciding to take a break from school based teaching I have pursued opportunities outside of the education sector, but I continued to tutor a number of KS2 pupils in maths as that is my specialised area of expertise. I have tutored online since the outbreak of Covid 19.
