Mathematics (KS3, GCSE and A-Level) – Kara Maths A Level, GCSE, International Baccalaureate, KS3

Ashbourne

I am a qualified maths teacher with many years experience working in schools and, since 2017, I have run Arlen Education’s A level maths classes, both in person and on-line (see those pages for more reviews!). I have also worked with students living in Spain, Qatar and Singapore, covering GCSE, A-Level and IB.

I am passionate about mathematics and enjoy sharing that passion with others. I have taught all the exam boards (Edexcel, AQA, OCR and MEI) and am an A Level examiner for Edexcel, meaning I am able to offer insights into common errors and tips for maximising your score in your exams.

Over the pandemic, I was given a short notice of 10 days to sit my Maths A-level that was supposed to be cancelled. During the course of the 10 days, I had daily zoom lessons with Kara. She was so thorough in explaining the tricky topics and ensured I understood all the topics. She always has multiple ways of explaining and working through complex questions. She provided lots of resources for me to do further practise on my own. Kara is very motivational and despite the pressure of the looming exams, her math lessons were really enjoyable. I would recommend her to anyone!

Kara graduated from Imperial College having obtained a MSci in Physics. She embarked on 18 months of travel before being employed on a graduate scheme learning computer programming. After four years in this career Kara had the opportunity to move to Chicago, USA, where she had a few temporary jobs before settling to work for an organisation that promoted health and fitness for girls. This sparked a passion for working with young people and on returning to the UK in 2010 Kara started working as a teaching assistant before deciding to train to teach mathematics.
Kara trained as a maths teacher in 2011 through the Graduate Teaching Programme at Landau Forte College and the University of Nottingham. She has since taught mathematics at KS3, GCSE and A Level. She is currently an examiner for Pearson for A level mathematics, providing a unique insight into exam techniques and common errors.
Kara has been teaching an A-level class since 2017, both in person and on-line. She has also worked online with students living in Spain and Singapore.
Kara believes everyone can succeed at mathematics and works to break down the stigma surrounding maths by making lessons enjoyable and accessible to all.
